The console offered a break from the usual. Besides the widescreen and more importantly was the new controls placement. It gave the first controller-style feel on a handheld, it offered a more horizontal gaming feel. This was pleasant for some, and unpleasant to others. Although this style was despised by significant handheld gamers still today, it introduced a new option for gaming style with their control design. The second generation of hardware, Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP, reverted to original Game Boy style controls. The new version became the most compact handheld ever, easily fitting inside a back pocket without protruding or bulging.
