This major leap in power came with compromises. it ran on a very fast for it’s day, Apple Mac Pro style CPU, named ‘Cell’. The CPU was powerful, and put out enough heat that the console acted as a bedroom heater when turned on. Games were incredibly difficult to develop for, drastically limiting the total game library size. The console was known for launching lots of new franchises with oddball games that still hold up today for their uniqueness or breakthrough gameplay-style. It saw the beginning of online gameplay, contributing to the further decline of local multiplayer.
