Most expected the console to quickly surpass the Genesis, as the company was an electronics giant, and Sega had struggled with the Master System. However, things did not play out that way. NEC staff weren't experienced in the games business, and third-party support was hard to come by. They also made a heavily criticized decision to make the console larger to appear more powerful, yet didn't add a second controller port or composite output. Despite it never departing Japan in a substantial way, the console retains a cult following to this day. A legitimately good console, which sold well and had lots of good games, especially action games. The console is quite overlooked in gaming history. It is a forgotten console that is actually worth revisiting for some audiences.
